Attracted by all that Cedar Trail gossip about 10-hour battery life and weeks of standby time? Then you’ll be pleased to see that Asus’s Eee PC 1025C and higher-end 1025CE models have received their nods from the FCC. Both pack the latest 32nm Atom processor under their 10.1-inch hoods, along with an HDMI-out, Kensington lock and flush trackpad. The CE additionally serves up a USB 3.0 port, 4x zoom on its webcam and a metallic finish. NetbookNews got some hands-on time with these babies at Computex and reported prices of $249 and $279 for the C and CE respectively — whet your appetite at the More Coverage link.

If your laptop spends more time spinning Netflix hits from yesteryear than yomping around campus, you’ll probably love these new offerings from
ASUS. It’s launching the 15.6-inch N55SF and 17.3-inch N75SF laptops — depending on budget, you can select an Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 chip and a variety of displays that go up to 1920 x 1080 on the high-end units. Each model gets a HD webcam, instant-on (which picks up where you left off in under two seconds) and USB Charger+, a USB port powered directly from the battery for hasty, direct charging. The company is pushing these as multimedia machines, bundling in Bang & Olufsen’s
ICEpower tech and a standalone
SonicMaster subwoofer as standard — the latter isn’t recommended for those frequenting the library, of course. 15-inchers will arrive later this month, with pricing to start at around €1,100 / $1,500; meanwhile, the larger ones will arrive in early October and begin closer to €1,350 / $1,800. Oh, and we’ve got some press shots to whet your appetite. They’re below.

The jury’s still out on when Verizon will get around to releasing the
Samsung Function — its own version of the highly covetable
Galaxy S II — but that hasn’t stopped Big Red from whetting our appetite. The country’s largest carrier has taken to the Twitterverse to confirm that its upcoming pride and joy will include an LTE radio, answering quite possibly the most perplexing mystery concerning Verizon’s take on the device. We’re still yearning for pricing, availability, and even images of the device to show up, but this little nugget alone may be enough to keep our impatience at ease for a while longer.
Update: VZWSupport just tweeted some disappointing news: “Clarification — I am speaking of the new Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 that is 4G.” Tomato, tomahto, tablets, smartphones, are we right?

Did our footage of OCZ’s new RevoDrive 3 X2 whet your appetite for more info on the super speedy SSD? Well, your wish is the web’s command, and we’ve got a full roundup of reviews that’ll tell you all you need to know. After putting OCZ’s latest through its paces, the consensus is that the SSD is seriously quick in remembering and retrieving data. According to Tom’s Hardware, the RevoDrive 3 X2 — with its max 1.5GBps read and 1.2GBps write speeds — “smokes everything” they’ve had pass through their lab. However, AnandTech noted that such capacious bandwidth is “simply overkill” for most users, as the drive only really flexes its muscles once the queue depth increases from enterprise-level workloads. Several sites noted that the drive’s lack of TRIM support was also a concern, and that more cost effective (albeit slower) storage solutions can be had with a DIY RAID array of SATA SSDs. Of course, you don’t have to take our word for it, get down to the nitty gritty in the links below.

We’ve seen them spit out fancy glass vases and tiny white strandbeests, and now the 3D thingy makers are pumping out cutesy salt and pepper shakers. Those hyper-glossy white rabbits pictured above are some of the first spawns of Glazed Ceramics, the newly minted food-safe material available from Shapeways. Glazed Ceramics are fired in an oven or kiln like traditional ceramics and are then coated with a lead-free non-toxic gloss — the result is food-safe, recyclable, and heat resistant up to 1000 degrees Celsius. The new material is now available to Shapeways designers and will be until August 12th, at which point the company will decide whether its worth keeping around. For now you can sate your appetite for 3D printed shiny white dishes by clicking the source link below.

If that Boardgame Remix Kit from a few days ago whet your appetite for breathing new life into all those games collecting dust in your closet, then the Scruble Cube should be right up your alley. It mashes up elements of Scrabble with the classic Rubik’s Cube (in a 4×4 configuration) to create a new spelling challenge that can be played by yourself, or against an opponent.
Like with Scrabble your goal is to get tiles lined up to spell out words with as many points as possible, though unlike Scrabble the tiles are all attached to a spinning 3D cube. If you crunch the numbers there are apparently over 7,401 septillion different combinations of the letters you can play, but what I like most is that when you end the game in absolute frustration you’re not left with loose tiles all over the living room after you’ve flipped the board. At $24.95 the Scruble Cube is a bit pricier than your standard Rubik’s Cube, but at least it improves your vocabulary. The only skill you learn from a Rubik’s Cube is how to carefully peel a sticker without dog-earing the corner.

Tron: Legagy is almost here, but December still feels too far away. Thankfully, you can whet your appetite for all things neon with these new scenes from the movie, featured in Daft Punk‘s Derezzed video.
Yet another reason to buy tickets as soon as possible. I don’t know if the screenplay is bad or if the direction is horrible, but I don’t care. I need this eye candy overdose. In fact, get the IMAX 3D version, which are now on sale too. Our own Mark Wilson has already bought his yesterday. Thanks Mark!
