It’s not that we’re upset UK viewers get to watch series like Luther, Misfits and Bedlam long before they officially air here (or in the case of Doctor Who, hours), but we are finally glad to know how a story ends before they do. In this case, regulators have decided that after analog broadcasting shutoffs have already taken place across much of the region, the final transmitters will go dark next year. Just as occurred here, the unused spectrum will then be auctioned off, while most TV viewers will survive, whether on digital OTA broadcasts, pay-TV or otherwise. We made it through with only one TV shot dead in cold blood, here’s hoping our counterparts across the Atlantic can handle the changeover as smoothly.

It’s true of other portable electronics and it applies here, too: if you own an e-reader, there’s a strong argument to be made that you need a case. Sure, readers are a little more scratch-resistant than smartphones, but a little bit of backpack trauma can do some nasty things to an e-ink display. That could be Amazon’s elevator pitch, anyway. Introduced at the company’s launch event last week, the Kindle Lighted Leather Cover comes in various sizes, with versions for the Kindle Touch and fourth generation Kindle. We spent some hands-on time with the latter over the weekend and have to say: we’re liking what we’re seeing so far. Read on to find out why.

For a tablet that prides itself in being thin and lightweight, the latest Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 accessory sure adds considerable heft to the device. The Korean manufacturer’s UK branch has teamed up with 14 Bike Co to bring the world the Samsung Galaxy bicycle — a mild-mannered bike with a custom paint job and a detachable holder for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 made from carbon fiber. So, why carry a tablet on a bicycle? For checking things like mileage planners and route trackers on the go, apparently. No word on pricing yet, but we’re guessing that this’ll be among the more expensive tablet accessories out there. Press information after the break.

While we’re only five days away from finding out the true appearance of the next-generation iPhone, our good friends over at BENM.AT went ahead and crafted their very own unibody dummy using CAD drawings, CNC tools and a block of aluminum — seriously, that’s how they roll! Granted, this work’s only based on various data and rumor gathered across the web, but it’s still a pretty convincing presentation — the ultra slim teardrop design and elongated home button from previous reports are taken into account, and the mute switch has been relocated from the top left to the top right. BENM.AT told us that this dummy fits nicely into the supposed iPhone 5 cases that they obtained. Speaking of which, we also found some of these cases too — read on to find out what they’re like.

Judging from the clandestine screenshot you see above, it most certainly seems like that’s the case. A helpful tipster sent us this tasty morsel, from AT&T’s internal system, listing the “iPhone 4s White” beneath a handful of already familiar Apple handsets. Could it be? Is Cupertino actually planning on bringing a white version of its next iPhone out at launch? We’re afraid only time will tell.

In addition to that three-piece armor case that chains your iPad to a hotel desk, Kensington quietly added three other products to its lineup — a motley collection running the gamut from a universal tablet case to a doo-dad that vibrates when you’re about to leave your iPhone at home. Starting with the doo-dad, BunjeeAir Power is a $100 accessory small enough to fit on a keychain, and pairs with a free iOS app and a special case (included in the bundle). If that sounds like a clumsy setup, keep in mind that Apple doesn’t allow third-party accessories to lock the phone via Bluetooth, so Kensington worked around that by developing an accessory that plugs into the iPhone’s 30-pin connector and communicates over a 2.4GHz wireless connection instead. So, once you’ve put the case on, the keychain will vibrate and beep once you get roughly 30 feet away from the phone, and it’ll eventually lock the device remotely, too. As an added touch, the case packs a 1,500mAh battery and a slot ’round back of the case into which you can insert a credit card or hotel room key to fashion a makeshift kickstand. Too bad none of this will help you the next time you abandon your iPhone in the backseat of a cab.

Moving along, the company announced the KeyFolio Pro, a case with a detachable Bluetooth keyboard and removable velcro corners that’ll fit any 10-inch tablet. The case, which costs $100, also has a stylus holder and seven notches, allowing you to prop the tablet up at a 22- to 72-degree angle. Wrapping it up, there’s Absolute Power, a $120, 100-watt brick with USB and micro-USB sockets that’s meant to replace the adapter that came with your laptop. Finally, there’s that pen you’ll see in those hands-on shots — an $18 stylus that doubles as a real, honest-to-goodness pen, topped off with a removable cap. Peek our hands-on shots below, along with the vid after the break — you know, if watching befuddled actors discovering they’ve forgotten their iPhone is your idea of a rip-roaring time.

Meizu Tablet Case

Like most other mobile companies out there, it appears Meizu is looking to branch out from cellphones to tablets. It’s a little too early to say for sure what the manufacturer’s plans are, but a recent patent filing by Jo Young Soo, Meizu’s lead designer, with China’s SIPO (State Intellectual Property Office) gives a hint that a slate may be in the works. The application isn’t for a tablet, per se, but for a protective case that holds a tablet and keyboard. Now, it’s quite a leap from case to tablet, but Meizu doesn’t seem like the type of company to suddenly jump into the third-party iPad accessory market. Obviously we’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but don’t be shocked if the Chinese manufacturer hops into the Honeycomb fray soon.

You know the old saying about not judging a man until you walk a mile in his shoes? Well, those who were quick to pass judgement on Bernie Madoff might want to try John Vaccaro’s new iPad cases on for size. The pockets are made from the Ponzi scheme mastermind’s pants, which were seized after his arrest. Vaccaro bought them up at auction and has begun making custom cases for the Apple tablet. At $350 each, they don’t come cheap, but you do get a certificate of authenticity — but with Madoff’s name attached, how could you possibly go wrong?

We’ve seen some rather inventive USB chargers in our time, but surprisingly few have managed to make charging while traveling a painless process. Aviiq’s new Portable Charging Station, on the other hand, has threatened to make the outside world a more welcoming place when it comes to juicing up. Acting as a sort of USB hub in a bag, this little black travel sleeve lets you pack and power three USB devices — even an iPad — with one outlet. What’s more, the station allows for easy syncing by way of a retractable USB port. So $80 ain’t cheap, and it won’t cook up pork and beans while you sing Camptown Races, but if you’re willing to shell out a little extra scratch for a practical USB travel charger, you can get your hands on one at the source link below. Full PR after the break.

Voomote One

Ok, so the name isn’t great, but the Voomote One is actually kinda neat. It’s not the first universal remote adapter we’ve seen for the iPhone and, unlike the Surc IR case, you probably wouldn’t want to leave this bulky add-on attached to your handset when not in use. But, the app does have some convenient features, like the ability to create custom layouts that can easily be switched based on the devices in a particular room. So you can setup a living room profile to control your big screen and cable box, and a separate bed room one for your more modest set and a stereo. You can also create command macros that fire up multiple devices with the tap of a single virtual button. The Voomote app is available for free in the app store, but the actual IR-blasting sleeve will set you back $99. Check out the gallery below and head on after the break for some PR.
