It’s been a long time coming but after years of cataloging various gadgets in TV and movies, we finally got our own starring role on the small screen. Our HTML code stood in for the usual computer gibberish pretending to be a dangerous hacking program on an episode of the French / Canadian TV series XIII and was spotted by a keen-eyed (and HDTV-equipped) reader as seen above. US viewers might recognize the title since it was also the source of a videogame in 2003 and a miniseries that aired on NBC in 2009; in its current iteration, the tale of a conspiracy in the US government airs strictly outside our borders. A clip of the scene is included after the break, check for the “5 years old, highly encrypted source code” at about 1:29. Nice job Prodigy Pictures but next time we expect a speaking role, two scenes with co-star Aisha Tyler, a trailer and a bowl of M&Ms — but only the green ones. Have your people talk to our people, we’ve been looking for a new career.
[Thanks, Dennis]

In the futuristic world of the would-be summer blockbuster Real Steel, Rock ‘em Sock ‘em-esque robots have become participants in a very real sport and, it seems, Nokia is still going strong — although you probably knew that if you’ve seen the latest Star Trek movie. In fact, this device bears more than a small resemblance to the one used by a young James T. Kirk, with it boasting the same translucent shell that encases what’s still unmistakably a Nokia design. Head on past the break for the full trailer, and look for the phone to make an appearance around the 16 second mark — although we wouldn’t recommend taking this as a hint of what’s to come for Windows Phone.

We liked the Kyocera Echo quite a bit, but perhaps the dual-screen tabletphone concept is a mite ahead of its time — here it is fifteen years from now, helping the Fringe team pull up security blueprints for an opera house. Or perhaps Astrid has become a vintage technology connoisseur? We have to admit it’s a step up from the Streak seismograph, but we can’t help but frown — we wouldn’t be caught dead running Froyo in the year 2026, after all.
[Thanks, Prince C.]

It looks like Tess Mercer’s got more than one hero in her life, but only one of them is running Windows Phone 7. In this week’s episode of Smallville, Lois Lane places a call to Tess Mercer, who appears to be packing a white HTC Hero. Oddly enough, though, it’s not rocking Eclair. That’s right, this Hero’s a Microsoft man — which has us wondering: what OS is Superman running?

If you have pleasant memories from your youth of a Dr. Dre in happier times, chilling with Snoop somewhere in LBC doing things we can’t discuss on a family-friendly site such as this… well, you’re in for a bit of a shock to the system with this latest video. The clip for I Need a Doctor — which is really more of a short film — features a brutally mangled Ferrari 360 Modena, Skylar Grey, and an angry Eminem (is there any other kind of Eminem?) yelling at Dr. Dre while suspended in some sort of creepy life-supporting fluid. Oh, but let us fast forward to the technology angle: Dre’s already hooked up with HP for Beats, and the trend continues here with the appearance of a Touchpad and Pre 3 doing a little Touch to Share action around the 4:20 mark. Follow the break for video.

It ain’t the first time Dell’s Streak has been featured on a major network drama, but it’s probably the last where it’s used as a makeshift seismograph. Olivia managed to discover some fairly otherworldly facts with the use of this here handheld on a recent episode of Fringe, but mum’s the word on whether she’ll survive this season. You know — the Friday slot.

Whoulda thunk that the third time we’d see the BlackBerry PlayBook on video, it’d be in the hands of cube-headed dopplegangster Will.I.Shill? Not us, but we’re terribly excited to see the 7-inch tablet show off its augmented reality chops in the Black Eyed Peas’ latest music video. We’re not really sure what alternate reality hijinks turned the musicians into 8-bit portraits nor pixelated their world, but the BEP sure look adorable as Xbox LIVE-friendly avatars. Watch it after the break, or skip to 2:12, 3:16 and 3:54 if you just want to get your tablet on.
